Much is being talked about the creeping privatisation of our NHS under the watch of Cameron and his coalition government.

Having visited our local Great Western Hospital accompanied by my wife, she was issued with a prescription after her consultation. We then asked where we should collect the prescription from, and were told by a very pleasant nurse that we needed to go to the second floor, and we subsequently took the lift and followed the directions.

Having eventually arrived at the prescriptions area we could not see anyone behind the glass panels, and the place appeared to be deserted. After waiting for a bit and calling out for someone to help us, eventually a person appeared who then said, ‘you have been misdirected as this dispensary is now closed’ and they should have sent you to the ground floor’.

We then proceeded to the ground floor and followed the signs, but were amazed to find that we found ourselves in a Boots the chemist store where we had to collect the prescription.

It is clear that pharmacy dispensing is no longer the preserve of NHS hospitals and has been given over to the private sector, which is just the tip of a growing iceberg, as there are many other NHS supplies who have also been given over to the private sector to profit out of, the supposedly not for profit NHS.
