IT WAS sad to hear of the death of the great Richie Benaud who, alongside the late pipe-smoking Peter West, presented coverage of England’s test matches on the BBC in the 1970s onwards.

They for me were the faces and voices of English cricket and bring back memories of many a summer day, watching cricket on the TV with my grandfather in his house in Deacon Street; lovely memories of years gone by.

With the new cricket season with us, I shall , as usual, be making a few trips to Taunton to watch the mighty Somerset in action; what better way to spend a summer’s day than watching first class cricket and with the Ashes series coming up in the summer I look forward to seeing some good cricket on TV and in Taunton.
