THE plans for the future of Broome Manor Golf complex are nothing if not ambitious.

Formerly run by the council and now under the control of Twigmarket following last year’s controversial deal, the site will undergo some radical changes if the company has its way.

A 50-bedroom hotel expansion and a new golf shop are just two of the alterations Twigmarket has in mind.

The plans will be on show to the public this weekend, and we hope everybody with an interest in the matter, however slight, goes along, scrutinises them thoroughly and then expresses whatever opinion they form.

People in this borough, like people in many other communities up and down the country, are no strangers to seeing all sorts of plans bulldozed through the process.

Would-be developers sometimes get their way because a cash-strapped council doesn’t want to risk an expensive appeals process.

The Broome Manor plans are an entirely different matter, though.

As a private company, Twigmarket’s mission there is to turn an unprofitable location into a location which is as profitable as it can possibly be.

In order to achieve this it must please the public. In fact, it must please the public to such an extent that they come again and again in droves and tell their friends to do the same.

That being the case, it would be commercial suicide for this firm or any other firm in a similar position not to listen to the views of the public before a single brick has been laid.

Twigmarket, irrespective of the controversial circumstances under which it assumed control of Broome Manor, clearly wants to hear how the public regards its plans.

The opportunity should not be missed.
