IN REPLY to the letter from Martin Webb, the picture of the child being passed over the fence at Calais was shocking and the baby’s parents should think good and hard if this is how they think this child should be brought up.

The family are from Eritrea, so poses the question on the rules of immigration, you must apply for asylum at the first point of entry. So, did this family fly to Calais or did they come overland and if so what was the first point of call? Or is the question really about the families’ urgent quest to get at Britain’s benefits life.

I wonder what Martin thought of the recent press report which showed an OAP care home in Kent being shut down as the county council said that urgent repairs to the roof were beyond viable means and the residents were then moved around the county. Weeks later and the care home is now being refurbished, and yes it’s for immigrants.

Or what about the ex serviceman who lost both legs in an explosion while serving in Afghanistan and his treatment for new artificial legs. He was passed onto the NHS and seven months down the line he is still in a wheelchair waiting for help. What about the ex servicemen who can’t get accommodation? We can’t look after the world. Charity should begin at home.
