ON AUGUST 4, following a couple of TV media broadcasts with Coun Perkins, I went to the Adver website and looked at their Swindon news slot.

Among the news items was an article about the Fleming Way development. At the time there were at least six other comments from local people. The article told how the council is going ahead with the development of the Fleming Way road and the new bus station and office blocks etc.

I had several thoughts on this so then tried to add my own comments to the story and tried at least three times to enter a comment but each time my PC stopped when I pressed the submit button.

I thought the PC might be playing up, so I logged off and then went back to the site and the story and the comments had all gone, no trace whatsoever.

If this is democracy then it stinks, or is the Adver trying to protect the council from adverse remarks?

My questions were as follows: Who are the developers or are the council going to go ahead and borrow even more money and hope that at the end of the day they sell off the office blocks?

That shouldn't be a problem as there are no empty office blocks in town, are there?

When this new bus station is running, where will all the traffic that uses Fleming Way go?

The debt is now rising fast towards the £300m mark. This will surely add another £50-100m to the cause.

Why is Coun Perkins once again spearheading this? Why does the man in the street have to ask these questions? Where are the opposition members?

The latest rumour concerning the old bus station land is that the developers want to buy the land for £100m but they want it now, hence the sudden rush to knock everything down. Council comment?
