Corbyn should Leave

EUROPHILE Mike Spry, March 29, resorts to scaremongering by saying, "Who in their right mind would jump into a black hole with Boris?"

Mr Spry is fond of telling other people to check their facts but is selective with his own.

Margaret Thatcher ceased to be Prime Minister 26 years ago yet Mr Spry continues to blame her for many of the country's "problems."

He should consider the facts relating to Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's views on the EU.

Mr Corbyn is campaigning for the UK to stay in the EU. After confirming Labour would campaign for Remain, he was accused by Leave campaigners of going back on long-held hostility towards the EU.

The BBC reminded us in 1993 Mr Corbyn spoke out against the Maastricht Treaty. He said it, "takes away from national parliaments the power to set economic policy and hands it over to an unelected set of bankers who will impose the economic policies of price stability, deflation and high unemployment."

The BBC also reminded us in 2008 Mr Corbyn voted against the Lisbon Treaty.

Reasons why the EU is deemed to lack democratic legitimacy include: The EU's commission is unelected. The European Parliament is too weak compared with the council and commission. European Parliament elections have low turnouts. The EU is too distant from voters. The EU adopts policies not supported by a majority of EU citizens. The Court of Justice makes law rather than interpreting it. There is a lack of transparency in the council's adoption of legislation and in appointment of commissioners. EU law has primacy over national law and constitutions.

I agree with Mr Corbyn's comments on the Maastricht Treaty and Lisbon Treaty. I hope he examines his conscience, acts on principle, puts his country before party and decides to join the European Union Leave Campaign. His past Euro scepticism implies this is where he should be.

Children put at risk

LIKE most Swindonians I was very disgusted to read about the key cabinet being left open at the Great Western Hospital.

Imagine what would have happened if a little boy or girl had found their way into the drugs trolley using one of the keys. There is no way of knowing what might have happened but we can be sure it would be horrible.

The same goes for any drug addicts who might have been hanging around. We have all heard stories about drug addicts wandering around hospitals and GP surgeries looking for drugs. Some have been so desperate for a fix that they've stolen the alcoholic hand washing machines from walls in other hospitals.

The other reason I was so sad to hear about what had happened at the GWH was that it shows the other hospital staff in a bad way.

I have had three relatives in the hospital over the last few years and all have nothing but good words for the way they were cared for.
