No punishment for rich

HERE we go again, there will be no comeback on the latest get even richer quick scheme by the top earners, the less than one per cent of this country, which includes MPs, bankers the rich and famous.

Money talks and if you have money you can do what you like.

Even if it’s not legal it will not matter because you’re rich enough to have no comeback – it will always be someone else’s fault.

I have just received my new tax code for 2016/2017 and, because I have a company car and there was a mistake with my code for 2015/2016 I was placed in a K code – that’s a debt code.

I called HMRC, who looked at my coding again and said: “Sorry, it seems you have been paying for two company cars.”

Even though I informed them I was changing my car in November last year it seems I had two for a period of time.

“We will sort this now,” they said.

Yes, they did. I now only have to lose 90 per cent of my personal tax allowance because I have a small pension from the time I served in the forces and this, combined with my salary (tax paid on the pension as well) puts me into the 40 per cent tax bracket but I still have to pay back everything that was messed up by others in the system.

I pay for private mileage monthly – I have to, because if I did not another 33 per cent would be added to my tax code and hey presto even less of a code and further in debt to the faceless tax man/woman.

Yes, I truly do believe the first statement above, nothing will happen to these fiddling elitists, nothing at all.

The only people who suffer and are hounded by the HMRC are us at the bottom of the pile.

The HMRC are too frightened to upset the establishment elite.

Pay tax for services

THE massive data leak of private information from Mossack Fonseca, in Panama, has shone a light into the very secretive dark world of tax havens.

Tax havens are a legal way for people and businesses to reduce the amount of tax they have to pay.

All political parties now agree that tax havens need to be more strictly controlled.

There would be more money for the public services in Britain if everyone paid their tax into the British treasury instead of using tax havens.

Play fair on leaflets

A TOTAL of £9m is to be spent by the Government on referendum leaflets to be sent to every house in Britain.

These leaflets will state the main points for the remain side of the argument in the EU referendum debate. This means that the Remain Campaign will be allowed to spend more than double what the Leave Campaign are allowed to spend.

This may be totally legal but it is not fair to the Leave Campaign.

Fairness would suggest that both sides in the EU debate should be allowed to spend the same amount of money.

Run for heart disease

HEART disease is heartless. I know first-hand the devastating impact it can have on families across the UK because heart disease took my father from me when he was just 50.

Every year more than 15,000 lives are lost to heart and circulatory disease in the south west.

The need to find new ways to fight it is urgent. By taking part in the British Heart Foundation’s new MyMarathon challenge you can help accelerate this fight by funding the vital research that is so desperately needed to end this terrible suffering.

I’m calling on everyone in the region to take part and challenge themselves to run the 26.2 miles this May. You can run it at your own pace in your own time, whether that’s over four hours, four days or four weeks so now everyone can go the distance.

Sign up today at bhf.org.uk/mymarathon and help us save more lives.

Thank you to shoppers

SWINDON Guide Dogs For The Blind would like to say a big thank you to customers of Morrisons, in Dorcan Way, who donated to our collection on Saturday, April 9.

Through your generosity we raised an amazing £451.

The funds raised will help to support one of our partnership in the Swindon area for days.

Our thanks also go to the manager Abi and all the staff at Morrisons.

The PM's new clothes

IN the Observer we are told Mr Cameron received £9,830 as an allowance from Conservative Party funds for clothes during 2014-15.

That’s quite a bit more than millions of poverty-stricken pensioners received in their basic pension the same year. All in this together? Who is he kidding?
