Bus fare hikes not fair

QUELLE surprise! Thamesdown Transport have decided to put their prices up again.

This really isn’t fair, buses are a popular mode of transport for pensioners and students alike, as well as families.

These price increases aren’t justified. According to Thamesdown Transport, they’re “focused on providing punctual and comfortable bus services across Swindon.”

Well here’s an idea, instead of putting prices up, stick to that!

I’m paying £40 for a monthly bus pass and the buses don’t even turn up on time.

Either that or two turn up at once and these days the old model buses are an absolute state and you’re crushed into a corner sticking to your seat cover.

For me these days bus rides mean drivers with a face like a smacked backside and screaming children that are too hot because in June the heating on the bus is still turned on (all day long).

There are also emergency stops that are violent enough to throw pensioners from their seats.

Let’s get back to basics.

EU vote ‘shattering’

THE referendum result is a shattering decision for Britain.

I am deeply sorry that the people of the UK have chosen this leap in the dark.

I believe future generations will question our wisdom.

The EU has many faults, of course, but I remain convinced that we would be safer, stronger and better off by remaining a member.

However, the British people have decided otherwise.

The Conservative Party, like the whole nation, must put our disagreements behind us and pull together to get the best for Britain.

As an MEP I intend to do all I can to make sure we negotiate the best terms possible for our departure and protect our trade, exports and economy.

Charges ‘eye boggling’

LAST Friday I called Swindon Borough Council to inquire how much it would be to collect and dispose of eight interior doors and was quoted the eye boggling amount of £81.

Apparently it’s three items for £27, so eight doors equates to 3 x £27, hence £81.

Obviously, I declined their offer and managed to find someone to do it for £30.

I certainly do not condone fly tipping but I can understand now why people do it when the council charges such an extortionate rate to dispose of items.

On Friday I actually filled my little car to the roof and went to the tip myself to dispose of other unwanted rubbish.
