I AM baffled by recent letters from councillors Renard and Perkins which suggest that funding for Swindon's schools does not come from the Labour Government.
I have received a letter dated October 25 from the Minister of State for Schools which says that Swindon received from the Labour government capital funding of £27m between 2005/06 and 2007/08 and will receive a further £53m between 2008/09 and 2010/11.
In addition, in 2003/04, Swindon was given by the Labour government more than £62m in PFI credits to fund the PFI programme which has built new schools in north Swindon.
In the light of this, I should be grateful if councillors Renard and Perkins could let me and your readers know: 1 Whether they think the schools minister is lying.
2 If not, what Swindon Borough Council have done and will be doing with the £152m given to it by the Labour Government that was meant to have been spent on school building and improvement in Swindon.
MICHAEL WILLS.
MP for North Swindon
