I AM afraid that it is Mr Hall who has apparently misunderstood the facts here. (SA, November 21).

The rot did indeed set in when Heath, without any kind of mandate, took this country into a Federal Superstate, knowing full well that it was nothing less. Papers in the Public Record Office at Kew prove that beyond a doubt. Knowing that he would never get this accepted by the electorate he lied and called it a Common Market, which never actually existed. Each and every Prime Minister since has both betrayed the sacrifice of the old soldiers and lied to the people while so doing. Brown's lies are no more, nor no less, than those of Heath, Major, Wilson, Blair with only Mrs Thatcher having (eventually) the courage to say "no", albeit half heartedly, and that cost her her job, but by that time it was too late, the bulk of the damage had been done.

The truth is that it really didn't matter which Prime Minister or which treaty Mr Scott or Mr Hall thinks of, they all fit together like the parts of a jig-saw to sell out Britain. Mr Brown is fond of saying the Lisbon Treaty will be the last, of course it will, it transfers all rights and decision-making powers to the EU from 2012, and for that reason alone is far more damaging than any that has gone before since the others always left something back for Westminster to claim a degree of independent action. Lisbon totally removes that.

Those looking to the Tories to save us are in for a shock. They are worse than the Labour for EU enthusiasm, since unlike the other two, Cameron pretends publicly that he can regain our self governance while remaining in a political Europe, which means that either he is far too naïve to lead this country or he too is knowingly lying. Either way it's not a good thing for our Prime Minister to do. The Lib Dem stance is well known as being far more pro EU than even the others.

Like it or not, only UKIP has the interests of Britain at heart and a vote for any other party is a vote in favour of the EU.
