AS there has been some snidey comments on line about the safe route to school I would like to point out to your readers that the issue of 'safe route to school for Penhill children is only one of the issues that local people, quite rightly in my view, are concerned about.

Marilyn Beale (SA, October 16) suggested there may be access to the new site from Whitworth Road or Olive Grove.

There will be no access to the academy except from Beech Avenue.

When planning permission was given there was £15,000 put in the conditions to increase service 10 to hourly between town centre, Pinehurst and Haydon Wick from 6pm to 10.30pm.

The No 10 service was reduced and replaced by the 21.

As there is £15,000 available to improve the bus service I don't feel it’s wrong to insist the council honour the promise made and use this money to improve the transport link which will benefit a lot of people.

Financial support from the Government towards this would be useful as well but I won’t hold my breath on that.

All of the community will be able to use the facilities at the new academy so good public transport links are, in my view, essential.

There is another public meeting on November 14 at 10am in the Penhill British Legion Club where the council will be bringing forward suggestions on how the concerns can be addressed..
