COUN Bluh writes about entering the era of ‘business unusual’. I would have thought he of all people should have recognised the need for entering this zone at least 12 months ago. Acknowledging now that there is a crisis is simply a little too late in the day. Perhaps the leader of the council will now look at the non-jobs the council has created during his time as head of the council. Will he take a closer look at the need for ‘Health Ambassadors’ or a Director of Safeguarding and Corporate Parenting or even more vacuous a Director of Integrated Children and Young People’s Services?

I am surprised to read that the council might face a £5 million shortfall in its accounts as Coun Bluh has always been at pains to point out that his cabinet colleagues are managing matters much better than the previous administration. Frankly I have my doubts as to such a claim. Perhaps Coun Bluh might now consider giving up some of the lucrative additional jobs he holds and concentrate his efforts on the issues in Swindon.

May I suggest that one of the first jobs he looks at culling is that of an almost invisible Chief Executive who costs over £200,000 per year.

Perhaps at the same time Coun Bluh could tell the Swindon public exactly how much the ‘Big Weekend’ cost the town.
