DAVID Cameron in his speech to the Tory Party Conference spoke of the steep climb the country faced under a Tory government to overcome the present financial situation, but (like the water rat said to the mole in Kenneth Graham’s novel The Wind in the Willows) the view will be worth it!
Both Cameron and Graham were brought up in the Berkshire countryside close to the river Thames where no doubt the view was special.
But Ratty in Wind in the Willows who had clawed his way to the summit could tell Mole the view was wonderful, while Cameron could only speculate pretending his view would be worth it!
There was nothing I heard from him or his shadow ministers at the Conference that gave me the confidence to believe their policies would prevail and the summit would be reached.
More likely it will be another dose of “If it’s not hurting it’s not working!”
