GOSH! Responses from six leading Tory writers, with their own ideas of history, there’s fame! Sorry, I may not be able to respond to all.

Mr Plumtree, in his letter of November 3, lists five famous rich reformers from British history. I agree, we all owe these men a great deal for our current life style. In some cases, while trying to reform British society, they spent years fighting vested interest in the Palace of Westminster. Yes, all five were rich and highly placed in society but, where they differ from Mr Osborne and Mr Cameron is that they were rich Socialist reformers. They saw the Dickensian plight of the working classes, of poverty and hunger, and, like many others, they fought for change. Can you see Mr C and Mr O doing this? I can’t. Even before being elected, and solely for the vested interest, they have promised to repeal the hunting with dogs act and also plan to give tax cuts to the richest in the land. Not really in the interest of the majority of UK citizens.

To Mr Selway and Mr Morgan I have to say, sorry, Mr Editor did cut out part of the message which led to a broader view of Mr O, but if you look on the internet there are a number of interesting biographies of George, and the Bullingdon Club, renowned for drinking and trashing property. In today’s world, vandalism; a sound way to form one’s life standards and values!

To Mr Reynolds, can I thank him for the many letters he’s sent to me personally. However, I do feel that he, and Mr Newman, have very selective memories. Up until 1997 this was a sinking nation, five million out of work, people dying while on waiting lists, pit closures, railway works closed, factories closed, gas, electric and water sell-offs to foreign companies; that was a sinking nation. From 1997 to 2007 we had the longest run of economic growth in 200 years. Now at the end of 2009, following the deepest world recession in history during 2008 to 2009, we again have growth. What caused this great recession? The world agrees that it was greedy bankers selling ‘empty boxes’. Bankers who had been given free reign over world banking by Mrs Thatcher and her side-kick, cowboy Regan. I bet your selective memories have forgotten who solved this world wide disaster! As the rest of the world knows, the solution came from the UK’s very own Gordon Brown. I hope this is up-beat enough to update you with the facts from recent history.

To Mr Morgan, I have to say that I’ve agreed with many parts of his recent letters in the SA. However, I thought his letter of November 3 to be a bit short on detail. One thing which is clear is that Mr Morgan considers Government investment of our money in more nurses, doctors, teachers, policemen, new industry, new schools, hospitals, lifesaving operations are all Labours failing policies. As a recipient of open heart surgery, I for one would disagree. I would remind Mr Morgan that since 1997 the Labour Government has lifted the UK economy out of the Tory morass of the 80s and 90s, has rebuilt failing hospitals, schools and industry, all of which was voted against by the Tories. It appears that Mr C and Mr O plan to cut these services to the majority of UK citizens; but you can always go private!

No one says that everything has gone right; even politicians are human, and yes, there is more to do. But it needs a mind which will focus on the needs of the majority of UK citizens and not the top 10 per cent and vested interest. I suggest you watch Andrew Marr’s Making Britain programme.

I noted on BBC Question Time on Thursday that the Tories intend to change the current employee protection laws; who will that favour, working people or the vested interest? Think! It may be you.
