I AM writing to ask your readers to pull on their Santa suits and support the first ever Diabetes UK South West Santa Dash across Clifton Suspension Bridge on Sunday, December 6.

Diabetes is increasing at an alarming rate and, as someone with Type 1 diabetes, I know how much impact this serious condition can have on people’s lives. There are 200,000 people diagnosed with diabetes in the South West and a further 60,000 who have Type 2 diabetes burt don’t know it. If left untreated or not managed properly diabetes can lead to devastating complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, amputation and blindness.

The Santa Dash is a great way to have fun while raising vital funds for Diabetes UK so they can continue supporting people with diabetes across the West Country and in their work towards finding a cure.

To register for the Santa Dash, please contact Emily Upsher on 01823 324007 or email south.west@diabetes.org.uk. Entry fee is £8 adults and £3 children (Santa suits included). The route is approximately one mile and is suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
