RE the letter Put Poppies First, (Adver, 7.11.09), as secretary of the Swindon Branch of the Royal British Legion, must point out that, we start organising the annual poppy appeal in August, and with so few helpers it is an enormous task to cover Swindon.

I further point out that we are only allowed to give out poppies for a donation during the two weeks prior to Remembrance Day; therefore the Swindon Poppy organiser has his work cut out to cover just our area.

I remind H Sheppard that there is three RBL Branches in Swindon, as for lacking initiative the Swindon Branch every year produces a show at the Wyvern Theatre, called Festival of Remembrance, has this person been to one?

As far as lack of helpers is concerned, if he has that many ideas and the time why not come and join us instead of moaning that we lack members. You can contact Mr A. Baker on 01793 431214, he would gladly accept your help.

You also mention about the number of shops that don't have a box; I can assure you that we visit all shops during the year to ascertain that they would have a box. You will be surprised to know that some 40 per cent refuse every year.
