“I know what is around the corner – I just don’t know where the corner is”

THAT famous quote from the confused mind of Kevin Keegan actually rang true on Tuesday night at the County Ground.

With Paolo Di Canio in charge, Town played some of the best football I’ve seen us ever produce, exciting, fast, free flowing, the best example being against Tranmere, when we took them apart 5-0.

Most of the players from that night are still at the club, which is what has been so frustrating over the past two months.

Finally, on Tuesday, that team managed to wake up.

It was great to see Kevin MacDonald change to a 4-4-2 formation – straight away you could see the benefits, as Town took a 3-0 lead into half time.

Adam Rooney and Andy Williams seemed more settled with a strike partner alongside them, but the best performances came from Alan McCormack and Massimo Luongo.

Club captain McCormack has played in nearly every area of the pitch this season, but his true calling is in central midfield.

He drove his team forward, while Spurs loanee Massimo Luongo had his best game in a Town shirt.

If he can keep his level of performances, he has a very big future.

Player of the Year accolades come to mind at this time of year.

Overall, it’s been a good season and I’m struggling to choose from three players.

Nathan Thompson, McCormack and Wes Foderingham have all had great campaigns, Thompson coming into a near-impossible task of replacing one of our best players, Paul Caddis.

He has done so with great style and consistency.

As mentioned, McCormack is a true leader, puts everything into every game and has once again been pivotal.

But I would vote for Wes Foderingham.

Recently named at 42 in the top 50 best players in the Football League by FourFourTwo magazine, Wes is certainly one of the best goalkeepers outside the Premier League.

His shot stopping is near faultless and you always feel comfortable with him between the sticks.

He oozes confidence, which can sometimes be someone’s downfall, but seems to have it directed in the right place .

Town will be fortunate to have this young star at the club next season, although I hope he will be the club’s number one for years to come.

Despite Tuesday’s win, Town still need a couple of points to be certain of a finish in the play-offs, which makes Saturday’s game against Stevenage another huge occasion for the club.

Even though a win isn’t essential, its important we still go into every game thinking they are must win.

Its painfully obviously that clubs that go into the playoffs on the back of a winning run always perform much better, building up momentum going in the playoffs will turn out to be priceless.

If MacDonald keeps the same system and style from Tuesday, I’m confident we will be celebrating that at 5pm on Saturday night.
