Further to Mike Benke’s article about parking charges in Monday’s Advertiser, I would like to take issue with David Renard’s assertion that: ‘The majority of parking enforcement is supported by local residents’.
Where Mr Renard’s argument falls down is in the fact that Swindon Council does not enforce parking evenly across the borough.
I don’t know how many enforcement officers are employed but there are clearly none deployed in Stratton.
Anyone having problems getting parked in central Swindon should consider a move here where it is possible to park on pavements, verges, across people’s driveways and even on double yellow lines at any time of the day or night without fear of being prosecuted.
I would suggest that despite the fact that Stratton residents pay towards the hire of enforcement officers, the council denies us their use in favour of the cash cow that is town centre parking.
Mr Renard and his council are responsible for the whole of the Swindon borough and should ensure that all parts are dealt with evenly.
It makes me wonder what would happen if I parked across Mr Renard’s driveway preventing him from entering or leaving his own property, as parents of a local school do across my drive?
