We reported on the protest by campaigners fighting to save the Oasis from permanent closure.

The leisure centre has been a favourite with Swindonians for the past four decades but shut in October when operator GLL handed back the lease, telling the borough council the facility was no longer viable in its current condition.

Its longer-term future is under discussion.

We asked readers what they thought should happen to it. Here’s what they said...

Kara Dean: “Bring it back it was my highlight as a child and I would love my kids to enjoy it.”

Mark Watts: “If you stop trying to get the building listed and allow it to be redeveloped you would have a decent leisure centre.”

Michal Kowalski: “This eyesore should be gone ages ago, if we be so nostalgic about everything we still be living in caves, time to move on.”

Chris Cox: “Nothing will happen with this place it will just sit and rot, even more so if it becomes a listed building, sorry to say.”

Clare Kingston: “All this greed for a bigger one will lead to us having nothing at all - we need more swimming pools not fewer as our population has expanded, and in new sites too - keep this one and build your dream one further out but on a major bus route.”

Emma Williams: “SBC and Seven Capital need to understand that Swindonians want a leisure centre that is unique on that site. There are hardly any wave pools left in this country. The Oasis is iconic unique and inclusive for people with disabilities. People need to wake up and understand what is really happening.”

Thomas Griffiths: “It’s an old tatty building. In the final years of its life, nobody used it and complained about it being awful, now that it’s too late, they want to save it.

Knock the eyesore down and put something useful on the site. If people really wanted to keep it going, they should have used it when it was open.”

Samantha Jamie: “Love the Oasis as long as its replaced with bigger and better, either old or new. But we need a good leisure centre for the town and reduce the rates £20 for a family of four to swim for 45 minutes - might as well go to a hotel for the night with a pool for a swim. Too expensive.”

Chad Singh Chaggar: “Why spend millions knocking it down and starting again. When you probably could spend half of that on a facelift. Revamp the old place up, bring it in to the 21st Century. But that’s way too simple for the council to do. Bets on they make another car park.”

Pete Toddington: “It’s gone past it’s sell by date move on do something modern at the moment it’s a bit like the rest of Swindon.”

David O’Brien: “Am I the only one who is somewhat indifferent to what happens with it? I mean we have some more pressing issues…”

Richard Jones: “Just tear it down. People trying to cling to the tired old past rather than moving Swindon forward is half the problem with this town. We can’t move forward looking backwards all the time.”

Natalie Forty: “I loved that the kids had somewhere better than just a plain lane pool to go swimming in, but it does need a revamp.”

Robert Craig: “Yeah deffo needs a sprucing up but it was the best pool in Swindon by far.”

Chris Clifford: “The sooner it is torn down and redeveloped the better.”

Jenn Wolfie: “It would be nice if it was demolished that a new leisure centre was built there, not housing. However, this place is financially beyond saving.

“Build a new leisure centre with a gentle incline suitable for children and new swimmers and those with disabilities. Increase what it has to offer by creating new and better rather than upgrading what is there already.”

Evgenia Marnavska: “There is nothing in town for people’s entertainment. So upsetting.”

Julie Broad: "Why are people so negative. This is an iconic building and it is sadly missed, its yet another amenity that will be lost. These people feel passionate enough to This on Swindon's behalf so give them a break."

Tony James: "Knock it down and build the ski slope,it’s not rocket science people
