OUR photographs were taken 24 years ago during a series of extraordinary events in Pinehurst.

Ray and Eleanor Baughn got in touch not only to report a UFO sighting but to tell us they had captured the mysterious object’s image on videotape.

Their experience in 1994 was only one of many reported by a variety of people from across Wiltshire during what was a lively year for the phenomenon.

Mr Baughn, a retired health worker, said he and his wife had first seen a strange light in the sky two years earlier. Queries raised with RAF Lyneham merely deepened the mystery.

He added: “They told me they had something on the scanner but they didn’t know what it was.”

Mrs Baughn said: “I wasn’t sure until I’d seen it myself several times up in the sky. It’s not a star - there are no other stars in the sky when it appears.”

Another local resident, Tony Haimes, revealed that he and his wife, Tina, had both seen the UFO.

“It spins backwards and forwards and then disappears,” said Mr Haimes. “It’s not man-made, I’m sure of that.”

His conclusion was shared by Mr Baughn, who had begun to note correlations between the appearance of the strange object, which he said hovered and spun for up to 90 minutes, and world events.

“I’m convinced there is something out there,” he said.

“They are trying to warn us not to go on killing ourselves like we are doing on this planet.

“Every time there is trouble in the world, this thing appears.”

Although the object showed only as a light in the couple’s video footage, Mr Baughn said that when observed through binoculars it appeared to be triangular.

Other UFO sightings in 1994 included one in Cricklade by students Matthew Morey and David Williams over a meadow in the dead of night.

David said the object was silent, about half the size of a single-deck bus, and hovered about 30 feet from the ground. Neither had previously believed in such phenomena.

In Marlborough, a visiting American called Jon Erik Beckjord walked into a computer shop with a disk containing some pictures he’d taken in California’s High Sierra mountains in 1980.

He recalled having seen strange creatures in the distance, and when the images were blown up they appeared to show either classic ‘grey’ aliens or something closely resembling them.
