Being the son of a famous father can be both a blessing and a curse.

Mud Morganfield, son of legendary blues singer Muddy Waters, has been blessed with a voice that closely resembles his father. But that means his audience often calls for the old classics rather than Mud’s own new songs.

He will be singing both old and new when he comes to the Swindon Arts Centre next week.

“It gives me great honour to keep my Dad’s legacy alive but I’m just an apple that fell of the tree,” he said.

Mud grew up with music all around him, but he did not follow his father’s footsteps until Muddy Waters died. He learned to play drums as a child but writes his own songs on bass guitar.

His debut album, Fall Waters Fall, was a self release dedicated to Muddy in 2008, but this year Mud has signed to Severn Records and has brought out a new album, Son Of The Seventh Son.

Mud has been invited to appear on BBC2’s Later With Jools Holland TV programme on Tuesday November 20 and Friday November 23. Jools met the bluesman at the London Blues Fesival when he joined him on stage for Muddy Waters’ famous song Got My Mo Jo Working.

Mud is dropping into the Old Town theatre as part of his British tour. The gig on Thursday, November 22, starts at 8pm and tickets are £16 from 01793 614837.
