GOSPEL king Jahmene Douglas had the power of his church supporting him at the weekend after they made the trip to Manchester to watch the X Factor final.

After performing with his choir last week on his return to Swindon, members of the Bible Life Church returned the favour and cheered him on, along with 10,000 other people.

Despite finishing second in the competition, senior pastor Timothy Walome said that Jahmene had done everyone proud.

He said: “The weekend was quite good, we all went to Manchester to watch our boy and he did so well.

“We couldn’t have been any more proud of Jahmene, he did Swindon proud, he did the best he could.

“We got to speak to him on Saturday and he looked quite chuffed to see us there supporting him, he was quite calm and collected.

“Either way he is a winner and for Swindon he is a great thing.”

Jahmene returned to the Gorse Hill Community Centre last Wednesday and he raised the roof with his gospel songs.

His X Factor mentor Nicole Scherzinger joined him on stage and wore a purple robe for the occasion as they performed four songs.

Pastor Walome, though, is remaining tight lipped on whether there could be a reunion with Jahmene and the choir in the future.

He said: “It was a wonderful day, nothing like we have ever witnessed before.

“It was a blessing to have him with us and it was a blessing to the community of Gorse Hill.

“We will have to wait and see if we can do something with him in the future – he is very busy at the moment.

“It is quite hard to get in touch with him but we are always open to anything in the future.

“It would be lovely for him to come back again.”
