COFFEE lovers will be pouring into The Parade next month when a new Costa store opens its doors.

The coffee shop giant, which already has several branches across the town, will be opening another town-centre venue on July 3.

The store at Unit 7, The Parade, near Debenhams, will create at least eight jobs.

A Costa spokesman said: “Costa is opening its doors in The Parade on July 3. The store will create eight to 12 jobs for local people and we are very much looking forward to integrating ourselves with the local community.”

The spokesman said they have had no reports to suggest that the other town-centre Costa, in Havelock Square, would close.

Brian Morris, manager of The Parade, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Costa to The Parade.

“Such a well-loved cafe brand is undoubtedly a great addition to the growing range of retailers that we now have in The Parade and we know that it will be really popular with shoppers.”

North Swindon MP, Justin Tomlinson, said it was great news.

“With 300,000 shoppers within 20 minutes of the town centre and three million within an hour, it is obvious why Swindon has yet again been chosen for a new retail unit,” he said.

“With the former Swindon College site starting to take shape, we should start to see much-needed regeneration accelerate.”

Mr Tomlinson said people were now spending longer in the town centre and using coffee shops more since Swindon Council reduced the parking charges to £2 for four hours in 2010.

“Traders I have spoken to have seen a 30 per cent increase in business since the parking changed,” he said. South Swindon MP, Robert Buckland, said: “We have got quite a few coffee shops now in the town centre and a number of independents as well.

“I am always glad to hear there is an increase in jobs and this is a welcome addition to The Parade.”

Costa already has stores at the Designer Outlet, Next at Home in Mannington Retail Park, the train station, Havelock Square, and a drive-thru at Lydiard Fields.

Swindon Council leader, David Renard, said: “I am really happy to see another outlet filling a unit in the town centre and helping to rejuvenate our town centre and encourage more people to come in.”
