WILTSHIRE Police are investigating claims that officers acted inappropriately while dealing with reports by a burglary victim in Swindon.

Shae Hunt lodged two complaints with the force over two separate incidents.

The first was made after an officer was called out to claims that Shae’s six-year-old daughter Lilly Rose had been assaulted by another pupil at Liden Primary School, at the end of the summer term.

The mother-of-four said she gave the unnamed PC all of the details about the case and then did not hear anything back.

She claimed she went to the police station only to find the officer had never reported the incident to anyone.

Although she asked for the matter to be investigated, Wilt-shire Police did not report it as a formal complaint.

Shea appealed against this decision and the Independent Police Complaints Commission has now approved her case and ordered the police force to note the circumstances as a formal complaint.

She said matters have been made worse after she called police at the end of September to report a burglary in progress when a stereo was taken from her home.

She said she had to wait an hour and 15 minutes before officers attended.

And she claims she had to wait for more than a week for someone to take her statement.

“I think because I had complained about the officer they are treating me differently,” said Shae, 34, of Upper Stratton.

“I feel let down by them. I don’t feel safe, they are supposed to be there to protect us.

“I can’t see how they are doing that when they don’t report the crime or don’t come out to help you.”

Since the burglary, Shae said she has felt unsafe in her home and is worried about the safety of her children, who are aged two, five, six and 12. Shae, who is unemployed, is a single mother.

A police spokesman said: “We have received a complaint from Ms Hunt in relation to an incident of alleged theft.

“This complaint is still being investigated by Wiltshire Police and, as such, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.

“Wiltshire Police can confirm that following a complaint raised by Ms Hunt, a review was undertaken by an officer who reported his findings back to Ms Hunt.

“Ms Hunt then appealed this to the Independent Police Complaints Commission who have instructed Wiltshire Police to record this as a complaint.”

Liden Primary School declined to comment on the assault claim.
