DETECTIVES have vowed to chase every line of inquiry they get from the public in a bid to track down a sex attacker who ambushed a young couple last week.

Information has been coming in to Swindon CID in response to an urgent appeal yesterday to find the prowler who stalked the pair and attacked them from behind between 2.15am and 2.30am on Friday, November 1, in an alleyway off Cambria Bridge Road.

A man and a woman were walking along the road when they were grabbed from behind by a man who then forced them into an alleyway.

The suspect then punched the male victim in the head several times, causing him to fall to the ground before then forcing the female victim to perform a sex act on him.

The 19-year-old male victim managed to flag down a passing car and the suspect then ran off.

The suspect is described as a white man, with short brown hair, no facial hair and of a medium build. It is thought he is aged between 20 to 30, between 5ft 5ins and 5ft 11ins.

He possibly had a local accent but nothing distinctive about his voice.

He was wearing a dark long sleeved green camouflaged coat which was baggy, zipped up the front, blue jeans with possibly a brown leather belt with a gold buckle and old, worn-looking trainers.

Detective Sergeant Sarah Champion said officers had had a good response to the appeal and were following every line of inquiry possible.

She said: “It is still early days but we have had some responses to the appeal and anything that comes in we are actioning straight away due to the nature and seriousness of the investigation.

“We have been conducting inquiries in the area to find anything that might be pertinent and I would urge anyone who might have any information, no matter how small, to come forward.

“The circumstances of this incident are out of the ordinary and we are pursuing all lines of inquiry.

“The victims are shaken by this incident and we are offering all the support we would normally offer victims of an assault like this.”

Police have released a clip of CCTV footage which shows a man detectives would like to speak to in connection with this incident, as well as several CCTV images.
