SCORES of residents tucked into homemade cakes and hot beverages yesterday to raise money for patients with life-threatening conditions.

Royal Wootton Bassett’s Sue Ryder shop, in High Street, hosted its third coffee morning of the year to drum up cash and awareness for the organisation. Sue Ryder provides care for patients who are terminally ill, either in hospices or at the person’s home.

Workers transformed their charity shop, which sells a selection of clothes and home goods, into a cafe for residents to enjoy a chat and cup of tea or coffee while raising money for the patients that Sue Ryder supports.

Most of the goods being sold in the store were Christmas themed to allow residents a chance to make a start to their festive shopping.

Money was still be collected when the Adver spoke to shop manager Sara Tait, but so far, she said the event had raised around £500.

“It’s been very successful,” said Sara, 53. “Everybody has enjoyed themselves. It’s quite a social event for people.

“They can have a chat with their friends or even make new friends. It’s all additional funding – all the money goes towards Sue Ryder’s charity which cares for patients with life threatening conditions and for people who suffer from complex medical conditions.”
