REALISING other people have had the same thoughts as him is the best part of performing for comedian Andrew Lawrence.

Star of his own BBC Radio 4 series How Did We End Up Like This? Andrew Lawrence will be performing his stand-up show, There Is No Escape, at the Arts Centre on November 21.

“The general theme is that everyone in some areas of their life feels trapped in certain situations. Maybe in their job, a financial situation, a relationship or with friends,” he said.

“Everyone feels this urge to escape and get away from things. It’s jokes and stories and a little bit of audience interaction.”

Andrew said the night will feel chatty but not in an intimidating way.

“It’s really about having a laugh together. Rather than picking on the audience. it’s usually me who is the butt of the joke.”

Andrew, who has been performing stand-up comedy for 10 years, loves his job.

“There is a real satisfaction in coming up with an idea you think is funny and saying it on stage and it connects with people and everyone in the audience laughs,” he said.

“It’s instant gratification. You get a positive response and make a connection. It tells me other people have had that thought as well and it’s not just me. That’s what I really like about it.”

Andrew has also appeared on BBC1’s Live At The Apollo.
