Dance fans are in for a treat this spring when three traditional productions of popular ballets – Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake – come to Swindon.

The Russian State Ballet of Siberia, accompanied by The Russian State Ballet Orchestra of Siberia, is bringing the famous ballets to life with dancers who are known for their unique interpretation of both dramatic and comic roles.

The ballet company was formed in 1981 and is based in Krasnoyarsk in Siberia.

The artistic director is Sergei Bobrov and the musical director is Antoly Tchepurnoi.

Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre welcomes the ballet company from March 3 to 5 in 2014, starting with Giselle on the Monday at 7.30pm.

Giselle is a heart-rending story of love, treachery and forgiveness beyond the grave, based around the love affair of a peasant girl and Duke Albrecht.

The Sleeping Beauty is a favourite fairytale and set to Tchaikovsky’s stunning score. It runs from 7.30pm on Tuesday, March 4.

The final ballet is the hauntingly-beautiful and romantic Swan Lake, again using Tchaikovsky’s music, and probably the most familiar soundtrack.

It is well known as a real challenge for the principal dancer taking on the dual role of Odette the swan queen and Odile the temptress.

The ballet begins at 7.30pm on Wednesday, March 5.
