THE Sun's decision to ditch topless models from page 3, published since 1970, was welcomed today by a campaigner and Adver readers.

Albertine Davies, founder of the Swindon Feminist Network, said: "Getting rid of the bare boobs in The Sun is really good news - a big step in the right direction for our society - it was a totally outdated phenomenon.

"It's not the final victory though, since The Sun has a fair way to go in terms of representing women equitably with men.

"Women - whether they have clothes on or not - are too often represented by the media as sexual objects rather than people with thoughts and feelings.

"That's something men don't suffer from in the same way - and it's that kind of thinking that allows our culture of sexual harrassment and sexual violence to flourish, unfortunately."

As of 4pm most readers who voted in our online poll were glad to see the last of topless page 3 girls
