RENDEZVOUS restaurateur Alan Mok has revealed his new multi-million pound eatery in Old Town will be transformed into a nightclub in the evenings.

He has kept the news under wraps while he fine-tuned the plans for the oriental restaurant at the former Belmont Brewery in Hooper’s Place, amalgamating the popular Swindon Rendezvous and Le Rendezvous restaurants.

But he lifted the lid to The Adver yesterday that the venue, which also used to be nightclubs called Mission and Studio, will become Tree nightclub by night and is set to open on Friday, August 19. There may also be a celebrity guest or top DJ there.

“Why I thought of the name is because a tree grows and hopefully will last for many, many years and I want the same to happen to this,” he said.

“We will be open until 4.30am at the moment on Fridays and Saturdays but it is a little bit up the in the air and will also depend on the events we have. We might have some live entertainment and we are going to have top DJs, comedy nights and tributes nights.”

Lighting will also be key to changing the ambience for diners to dance the night away or sit in the booths to enjoy performances. Partygoers can also join in on the action after the restaurant, set to serve 250 customers, closes at 10.30pm.

Both floors will be combined and used for the nightclub and restaurant with booth seating, a VIP area and hostesses on hand to serve drinks. The tables will be removed when the restaurant transforms into the nightclub. On the first floor will mainly be dance and R‘n’B music.

“Everything we do, I want to make a statement,” Alan added. “When people come in I want them to have a wow feeling. I want to make sure they get really good service and they don’t have to wait for their drinks. I want everything to be top-notch.

“Everything is all about the lighting. I have taken ideas from everywhere around the world.”

A huge disco ball worth £2,000 will be the centre piece in one of the rooms and spin in the ceiling. While there will also be 3D wall projections and drapes will cover the walls with lights inside.

Alan added: “A lot of people travel to Bath, Bristol and Reading, so I wanted to make something in Swindon where people will travel in and bring more business, rather than us going out, that is why we have invested so much money."

Despite progress going well on the new eatery, Alan was devastated last month when Swindon Rendezvous, in Theatre Square, which was set to close a week before the new restaurant opens, was damaged in a blaze. He has bought back Le Rendezvous in Haydon Street to use temporarily.

“It has been a really tough few months,” he added. “That really affected me because we had been there so long. This is the reason why I want this project to be amazing. It will be worth the wait.”
