A MAN found in the street on Tuesday morning suffering serious head injuries is still in a critical but stable condition at Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
Wiltshire Police are investigating the circumstances after the 36-year-old was found by an ambulance crew near Canal Walk following a phone call from a member of the public.
Det Insp Simon Childe said: "This was a serious assault on a 36-year-old man; I would like to appeal to those individuals directly involved in this incident to come forward.
"Also, if anyone heard or saw anything suspicious on this path at this time, please contact me to help with our enquiries.
"Understandably, incidents like this will cause concern amongst the local community. I would like to reassure residents that crimes like these are not that common and we are conducting a thorough and robust investigation in to the incident."
