CHILDREN are undergoing a crash course in being holistically healthy at St Catherine's Catholic Primary School.

A long list of guest speakers are lined up to speak to pupils at the school all week.

The primary is aiming to attain the Healthy School government classification.

Teacher Rosalind Brock said: "The intention of the week is to promote healthy living and a healthy lifestyle.

"We want to be classified as a healthy school.

"We want to attain the healthy status to show that we do a lot here from eating properly, promoting physical activity and emotional health.

"It is going to be a really busy week."

Visitors from the Great Western Hospital, Wiltshire Oral Health, Road Safety, Fire Safety and the Samaritans will all impart their know-how to the pupils throughout the healthy' week.

Mrs Brock organised the week to give pupils a different perspective.

She said: "We are looking for alternatives but we don't have an issue with junk food here.

"I'm a great believer in educating the whole child - giving the children a different way of thinking."

Youngsters are already eating fairly well, as three classes get a pear, apple or banana every day. They will get the chance to create their own fruit salad on Thursday.

And the primary school even has its own fitness instructor - Les Slinn - who puts children through their paces on a Monday and Tuesday evening.

The evening club is booked out with about 30 pupils attending each session.

"He is fantastic with the children - he teaches them boxing, tennis, hula hoops and dodgeball," said Mrs Brock.

"He does lots of fun activities and really hypes them up."
