FANS of the Fratellis rocked the night away in Swindon last night.

The young audience were treated to a large portion of indie rock - and it went down a treat.

Sam Thomas, 25, from Pinehurst, had splashed out on tickets for her boyfriend's birthday. She said: "I wanted to do something special for him as The Fratellis are his favourite band."

Karl, who was 24 yesterday, said: "It was a lovely surprise. I knew they were playing at the Oasis but as the tickets sold out so quickly I thought we had missed out.

"But to my surprise tonight Sam said we were going and it felt so good.

"They really were brilliant, so good. I've seen them play live a few times before but they sounded the best I've ever heard them tonight.

"I can't wait for their new album to come out because their new song Pretty Like A Girl is absolutely fantastic.

"I just wish I was going to Glastonbury to see them again this weekend."

But one lucky pair doing just that are 19 year-olds Simon Peters and best friend Darren Ward.

They said: "We're legging it to the festival now - this is the first day of our quality music weekender and we've got another three wicked days to follow.

"We wanted to see them play tonight because we're big fans.

"Although bands like The Killers and The Strokes seem to get more notoriety than The Fratellis which annoys us - we think they rule."

Heather Andrews, 18, a student at Swindon College's School of Art, enjoyed letting her hair down after a hard year of studying. She said: "What a fab night. It was the first time I'd seen them live and they didn't let me down. I think they are so talented and Jon is cute."

Alyssa Lloyd, 17, from Gorse Hill, said: "Brilliant night but then again I expect nothing less from them. They're simply great."
