HIGHWORTH Road was closed this evening for more than two hours following a crash which left traffic blocked in both directions.
Emergency service teams raced to the scene, close to the Supermarine roundabout, at around 6pm.
The road, also known as the A361, was closed to allow police and paramedics to respond and was not reopened until 8.30pm.
Drivers were diverted away and urged to find alternative routes for much of the evening.
One passing motorist described the scene beyond the cordon where she said many blue flashing lights could be seen through the trees, an indication of the scale of the emergency service turnout.
Wiltshire Police confirmed that the crash involved two vehicles but they have not yet confirmed whether anyone was injured.
