VINYL sellers across Swindon are on track to take part in this year’s Record Store Day.

In preparation for the big day in April, Red House Records and RPM Records will hold special events this evening to celebrate the day’s 10th anniversary with customers and announce what special releases will be made exclusively for the occasion.

The annual event was created to support independent record stores worldwide.

The rare and exclusive records sold on the day regularly attract large crowds, so vinyl lovers will be eagerly awaiting the list announcement later today.

RPM Records on Devizes road in Old Town will be celebrating by hosting an event at the Tupenny pub next door at 6pm featuring live music from Phil Cooper and a raffle with prizes including a Pro-Ject turntable, a record case and headphones.

The family-run business also offers Swindon’s only record cleaning service and is taking pre-orders for a limited edition Rega turntable.

Only 500 are being made and 50 will be signed by artists who support Record Store Day.

Red House Records which is based in Holmes Music on Faringdon Road will be having a Record Store Day voucher giveaway event from 6pm with music and coffee at Darkroom Espresso, a few doors down from the shop.

The specialist store opened in 2013 and has quickly become a beloved local business that’s teasing an exclusive live appearance for this year’s RSD.

Store manager Paul Holmes said: “This is bigger than Christmas for us, it’s the biggest and busiest event of the year for record stores.

“This will be our fourth time hosting in Swindon - the first time we did it put this shop on the map, it brings in a lot of new customers so it’s really important.

“The event tonight is ideal for a relaxing after-work wind down - it’s the next best thing to Record Store Day itself.”

Record Store Day was originally kicked off by Metallica in San Francisco in 2008 and has grown into one of the biggest and most anticipated events on the music calendar every year.

More than 500 different titles are released on the day and over 200 stores all over the UK come together to celebrate with live events, performances and parties.

Record Store Day 2017 is on Saturday, April 22.
