A WROUGHTON vicar has encouraged people to attend one of the parish’s churches during Holy Week in a bid to hear the Easter story which, according to him, has transformed the lives of millions.
Canon Michael Johnson, vicar at Wroughton Parish Church, has reminded people of the true meaning of Easter and the majesty of the Bible story.
He said: “The Last Supper, which Jesus had with his friends, and from which his betrayer slipped away, seems an unlikely basis for the most important act of worship in the Christian Church – the Holy Communion and the Mass.
“But, most unlikely of all, was the event on Easter Day, when Jesus’s followers came to believe that he who had been buried in a tomb was alive.
“Able to appear and disappear at will, to pass through locked doors, to be recognised by his followers, the risen Jesus had an impact that was far greater than any of these things would suggest.
“This is a story that is truer than any screen story and it is a story that has transformed the lives of millions. Hear the story again in one of our village churches this Easter.”
