A CANNABIS dealer caught smoking the drug in his car outside his house has been jailed for 14 months.

Nasir Nawaz was lounging in the vehicle after selling some drugs following a late shift working at a Highworth restaurant.

And when his phone was looked at it was found the 29-year-old, who has a previous for selling cocaine, was a 'serious dealer' of cannabis.

Tessa Hingston, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court that police on patrol just before 1am on Sunday, August 21, spotted a parked car with its lights on.

When they went to investigate they smelled cannabis and saw the defendant reclining on the rear seat.

Nawaz said 'Why are you trespassing on my private property officer?' as he was told he was going to be searched for drugs.

He then told them 'It is late at night and this is my home, be humble,' as they went into the house.

Miss Hingston said in the car police found a bag containing deals of cannabis wrapped in cling film and on him were two mobile phones.

She said that just over 22g of the drug was found, worth about £350 in street deals, and £4,750 in cash.

When the phones were analysed one was found to have a number of messages on it relating to the trade in drugs.

Nawaz, of Beck Close, Greenmeadow, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

The court heard that he was jailed for four years at Harrow Crown Court in 2010 for dealing in cocaine and cannabis and was fined in 2014 for having a knuckle duster.

Giving an oral report probation officer Karen Fowler said he worked as a motor trader for Welcome Cars and at the Spice Kitchen in Highworth.

She said he would smoke drugs in his car after work as his parents would not allow to do it in the house, and he was doing it to unwind after work.

He told her that he had been out selling about £60 worth of the drug before his arrest and the remaining cash was wages and for buying cars his boss did not want.

She said that he was also working at becoming a taxi driver but had not started the knowledge part until he knew his fate.

He also feared he would not be allowed home if he was jailed again as his father was fed up with his offending,

Emma Handslip, defending, said he was very sorry for what he had done and was trying to improve his life by holding down two jobs and training for a third.

Jailing him Judge Tim Mousley QC said: "When your phone was examined the text messages on one of them confirms you were a significant dealer of cannabis at street level, and you were motivated financially to do that. You are now 29. You have a serious conviction against you in Harrow.

"It does seem to some extent that you have learned your lesson.

"I hope you have because anybody who has three convictions for possessing drugs with intent, albeit two for cannabis, if there is any repetition then the sentences get longer and longer."
