A DRUNK who scared a woman when he started fumbling in his trousers and made an indecent suggestions as she stood in Swindon town centre on a weekday morning has been told he could be facing jail.

John Alice, pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of, or provoke unlawful violence when he appeared in the dock at Swindon Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Prosecutor James Burnham said the woman victim, a cleaner, was standing near the bus station in Swindon town centre at 8am on April 27, wearing headphones and listening to music when Alice approached her.

His conversation opened with the words “Give me a cigarette,” followed seconds later with the question “Do you want to f*** me?” repeated several times.

Mr Burnham said: “He was undoing the belt of his trousers and fumbling around, clearly drunk.”

As she walked away, trying to call her boyfriend on her mobile, she felt his hand on her shoulder.

She reacted by saying: “Please don’t touch me.”

Alice then shouted “I’m the bad guy now aren’t I?” before calling her a foul name.

Richard Williams, defending, said Alice was interviewed by police and became clearly upset when they told him what had happened.

He accepted Alice had served four years for robbery in 2007, but added: “He has been out of trouble for about ten years.”

District Judge Simon Cooper told the defendant: “You were drunk, you used abusive language and behaviour. You touched your victim and frightened her to death.”

Adjourning the hearing until June 9 for a pre-sentence report, he warned Alice he was considering a prison sentence.
