THE parents, staff and students of Dorcan Academy hosted a fun-filled summer fete.

Featuring a huge variety of stalls, cakes and refreshments as a dog show, a steel band and a barrow of booze raffle, it was all in aid of WellBoring – the Wiltshire water charity making a difference to children’s lives on the other side of the world.

The charity works to build wells at schools in Kenya where there was previously no fresh water. To transform a school community in this way costs around £3,750 each time.

Elizabeth Burnett, language teacher and head of Kingfisher House at Dorcan Academy, said: “We’re looking to raise £3,000.

“We’ve already raised over £1,500 on non-uniform days and a concert that we held in October.

“The kids and parents have been great, they’ve really got behind it - some are running their own stalls, people have been baking cakes. It’s fantastic.”

Nigel Linacre, co-founder and trustee of WellBoring, thanked the school for their efforts and explained just what it means on the ground in Kenya.

“Clean water means illness falls, enrolment grows, results improve, and communities get water too,” he said.

“Health, education and poverty addressed in one well.

“We provide water solutions for 25 African schools. Our goal is to get to 100 schools as fast as we can.”
