CHURCHFIELDS Academy pupils were all smiles when they picked up their GCSE results.

Headteacher Sandra Muir praised her pupils' exam performance.

She said: "We've had a lot of happy faces this morning.

"I'm really pleased with the results today, and particularly pleased with the amount of A and A*s the students have managed to achieve.

"These will enable them to go on to college, sixth form and apprenticeships, which they're really looking forward to.

"It's been a challenging year with the introduction of the new exams.

"We didn't know what the grade boundaries for the new English and Maths grades would be until this morning but the children have navigated their way through that and have lots of good results to celebrate."

This is the final set of Churchfields GCSE results before the secondary school completes a massive makeover just in time for the start of the new term.

Churchfields will re-open under the new name of Lawn Manor Academy on Friday September 1 as part of the Royal Wootton Bassett Academy Trust.

Sandra added: "It's a new beginning and an exciting stage in the history of the school.

"We look forward to building on these results in the future after we re-open."
