A POPULAR burger start-up will open its first restaurant later this month.

Moody Burgers currently operates as a takeaway joint in town centre bar Boston Brothers.

But the firm, which has received a five star rating out of a possible six on food app Just Eat, will move into new premises on Commercial Road this month.

Moody Burgers will replace Mok’s Streetfood and Grill, which closed in August just five months after opening its doors.

Carl Anderson, 47, managing director of Moody Burgers, said: “We set up in Swindon 12 months ago with the inspiration of bringing Californian-inspired burgers to the town and delivering them to people’s homes.”

The team behind Moody has been operating bars and restaurants for more than two decades.

Carl said: “Throughout the UK there was a growth in 'better' burgers, but there wasn’t a company delivering them.

"We thought there was a gap in the market to do something a little bit different, a little bit special.”

The company has spent the last year delivering “hundreds” of burgers a week from Boston Brothers on Bridge Street.

Online, diners have praised the quality of the food -  “Kal” wrote on the Just Eat website: “The burgers were tip top.”

Others, however, have complained of long or delayed delivery times.

The company will now open a two-floor restaurant, with 80 tables.

When they open their new restaurant in September, Moody's will offer up to 50 cocktails and alcoholic milkshakes – in addition to their usual menu.

Their chefs will unveil a new signature burger – The Moody - burger bosses said.

The triple-stack meat megalith will include a piece of chicken, beef patty, pulled pork and bacon.

“Everything we do is home-made,” said senior manager and Swindon boy Danny Mason, 33.

“There’s nothing else similar to what we’re doing. You won’t get another burger of the size we’re offering.”

They’re hoping that this will set them apart from previous food businesses that have floundered at the Commercial Road site.

Italian restaurant Rustico shut its doors around the new year. Mok's Streetfood and Grill was opened in April by Alan Mok, the nightlife boss behind Old Town’s Rendezvous restaurant and Tree nightclub.

Alan Mok said of the restaurant’s closure last month: “It’s just one of those things. I think we identified it in the wrong way: people didn’t know what street food was.

“We had quite a good offer from Moody Burgers. I think they’ll be a good brand to be there on Commercial Road.”

Moody’s Place will open at 96-97 Commercial Road in mid-September.
