FIREFIGHTERS raced to the David Murray John tower tonight.
Alarms sounded at the 21 storey building shortly before 10.30pm.
Fire crews were deployed from Swindon Fire Station in two appliances and were on the scene within minutes.
A witness said firefighters wearing breathing apparatus sets could be seen at the base of the building.
Fortunately, the incident turned out to be a false alarm and no further personnel were required to attend.
A spokesman for the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the control centre received a call to the David Murray John building at 10.26pm.
On arrival, the first crew on the scene discovered that it was a false alarm caused by burnt toast in one of the flats.
The incident was declared over at 10.43pm, just 17 minutes after the initial call.
