Friday

Pumpkin carving family weekend at Lower Shaw Farm, Old Shaw Lane, Swindon - call 01793 771080.

This is a weekend for families, with children of all ages. Carve and hollow pumpkins and fill them with light, decorate little lanterns to shine brightly and drive away the darkness, make marzipan skeletons, harvest apples and turn them into golden juice, light fires and make fire sculptures.

A weekend for all ages to get together and be imaginative, and have fun. The event finishes after lunch on Sunday. Adult, £150; child (aged two-18), £87 - call 01793 771080.

The Zoots Halloween Concert, 7.25pm, Marlborough Town Hall, High Street, Marlborough. £14 Ticket only. 07887 990400. Music, dance and performance. Journey through the hits from the last 50 years; The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi, Guns n Roses, Pharell Williams, Bruno Mars, Mark Ronson including dance medleys from The Zoots, and a performance from students of Marlborough Academy of Dance and Drama.

Welcome To The Apocalypse, 7.30pm, Level 3, 73 Commercial Road, Swindon. 01793 534238. Southwest Hardcore proudly presents their Post Apocalyptic themed halloween party featuring Roads To Nowhere, Erase The Rat, Ursus, Drip Fed Empire. Fancy dress is highly advised.

Saturday

Swindon and Cricklade Railway, Blunsdon, 6-8.45pm features Halloween Ghost Train runs. Tickets are £7 for adults, £5 for children and £6 for seniors - family tickets are £22. Details here

Autumn Hedgerows, 11am, Stanton Park, The Avenue, Stanton Fitzwarren. Free. 01793 490150. A gentle 5-mile walk through this fabulous park, and surrounding countryside. Suitable for dogs. Meet at Stanton Park Ranger Centre. Please wear clothes to suit the weather and stout shoes, bring some money for refreshments at the half way stop.

Halloween Family Fun, 5pm, Savernake Hall, Savernake Street. £1. Fun, family drop-In with a chilling cafe. The activities at the event will be most suitable for 4 to 8-year-olds. Circus skills and wand making will be included in the admission price, and face painting will be £1. 

Halloween Spooktacular, 5pm, The Sun Inn, Marlborough Road, Coate. Free. 01793 523292. Fun-packed Halloween party starts with disco and kids fancy dress competition and games and at 7pm is fire walking - £30 minimum fund raising commitment for Swindon Advocacy Movement. At 9pm creepy covers with Manhattan Nights and adult fancy dress competition.

Milton Road 'ghost hunt', 9pm, Milton Road Swimming Baths, Milton Road. £29.95. 07947 103071. Join VIP Paranormal Investigations for a night of paranormal discovery. There have been reports of soldiers roaming the halls and shadows around the pools. The team have exclusive access to this amazing building.

Sunday

Swindon Screams, noon, MECA, Regent Circus, £6 - Call: 0844 579 3322. If your kids love to get spooky and dress up for Halloween then this is the event for you with plenty of family-friendly activities including Halloween fancy dress competition and ferocious T-Rex is set to make a roaring appearance throughout the event, so there will be plenty of photo opportunities. Children’s disco with Halloween host, zombies, games and an opportunity for visitors to sit in a former electric chair. Chance to meet Hagrid lookalike from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Two sessions: noon-2pm or 3-5pm.
