JUGGLERS Jake and Darine are heading to Nicaragua early next year to teach circus skills to vulnerable children as part of a Performers Without Borders Mission.
And the pair are staging a Cowshed Cabaret at Lower Shaw Farm this afternoon to kickstart their fundraising campaign. It’s the fifth trip Jake has made with the charity, which teaches performing arts to children in poverty stricken areas of countries like India, Sierra Leone and Kenya as a way of building confidence and helping them to overcome social barriers.
Jake, otherwise known as Jacob Hirsch-Holland said: “Essentially it is a fun non-competitive way of developing life skills.
“I really think that this is a way of helping children explore their own potential and when you are in a dire situation as a child you do not have many opportunities.”
He and Darine Flanagan will be taking circus equipment out with them to leave with the children but before they go they need to raise the cash to pay for the flights, accommodation and equipment. As well as the show they will be undertaking acrobatic life modelling, bag packing in supermarkets, busking in different locations and doing circus workshops in schools in Ireland and the UK. Today’s show is at 4.30pm. Tickets cost £7 for adults and £5 for children. To sponsor them visit chuffed.org/project/jake-and-darines-pwbmission
