MORE than 20 trophies were handed out on the third day of the Swindon Music Festival, with one of the adjudicators remarking how impressed he was with the musical talents on show.

James Kirby, himself a chamber musician, said: “I am having a wonderful few days adjudicating at Swindon. Festivals are really important as they are often the first stage for those people who go on to be professional musicians.

“It is fantastic to hear so many people play very well. I would like to congratulate the team at the Swindon Festival who take great care with organising this event so beautifully. I wish them all the best for next year and the future.”

In the Piano Solo – 7 and under category, Ann Luong was the winner with 85 points, while Pritii Mane, Alessandro Virgilio and Joshua Mannacherry all took joint honours in the Piano Solo – 9 and under class, all scoring 88.

The joint winners of the Piano Solo – Grade 2 class and The Florence Hawkins Cup were Janice Ma and Lewis McKerrow, both with 86 points.

In the Piano Duet – 11 and under section, Naomi and Rosie Porter took the honours with 85 points; while in the Piano Trio – 11 and under section, the winners were Andrew, Emily and Nicola Sewell with 85 points.

Isabelle Floyd picked up The Maureen Barkham Trophy in Piano Solo - Grade 1 (87 points); and the Piano Trio – 16 and under section went to Hannah Dolman, Lucy Burbidge and Lara Hune (86 points).

Recorder Solo: up to Grade 1 was won by Sofia Oldland with 84 points, and the Recorder Solo: Grade 2 was taken by Maddy Robins with 85. Stephanie Harkness was the winner Recorder Solo: Grades 3 – 4 with 84 points, and Recorder Solo: Grades 5 – 6 went to John Hunter (87).

Cathy Gibbs won Recorder Solo: Grades 7 – 8 (87 points), while Mrunal Mane was presented with The Dennis Stow Trophy in the Piano Sonata Solo – 16 and under section, with 87 points.

In the Modern Popular Piano Solo: 16 and under category, Freya Jankinson took The Gordon Talbot Trophy, scoring 85 points. Piano Solo – 13 and under and The Jennifer Allen Trophy was taken by Sasha Rachel Fernandes (90 points). The Beatrice Cripps Memorial Cup for Piano Solo – 16 and under also went to Freya Jankinson (85).

Strings: Grades 5 – 6 was won by Naomi Walker with 85 points; Jason Henry won Strings: Grades 7 – 8, scoring 83, and Strings: Grade 8 and over – any age was taken by Rebecca Henry on 85 points.

The Instrumental Solo (Jazz): Grades 5 – 8 went to Sally Armstrong on 84 points, earning her The Eric Day Trophy.

Timothy Lai took The Ann Watkins Memorial Cup for Piano Solo – Grade 7 and above, with a score of 87, and Lewis Sayle won The Dawn Ball Trophy for Piano Solo (excluding sonatas) – 17 to 25, with 85 points.

Last but not least, Michael Pogany took the Piano Sonata Solo – 17 and over section, with a score of 82.
