COUNCIL officers scrubbed down racist graffiti daubed on the historic Locarno building.
The painted “White Power” slogan is believed to have been painted on the former Corn Exchange by banned right-wing terror group National Socialist 131.
This morning, the Swindon Advertiser reported that the offensive graffiti remained on the walls of the Locarno’s Bell Tower – a month after the daubings were initially reported to the council and police.
Old Town councillor Nadine Watts said that the graffiti had “no place” in Swindon.
Council officers moved swiftly to remove the paint – which by the afternoon had been scrubbed from the Bell Tower walls.
Emma Pocock of Swindon Borough Council said: “We worked swiftly to make sure this offensive graffiti was removed as quickly as possible and are pleased it’s now been taken off the Locarno building.”
