A PLANNING application to build almost 400 houses as part of the New Eastern Villages development at Redlands will be brought before the council’s planning committee next week.

The proposals, which include 370 dwellings, a local convenience store and community facility, a primary school and open spaces, have been recommended for approval by planning officers.

The application also seeks approval for means of access to the site provided by the formation of a new access from Wanborough Road.

The site, at Redlands Airfield, has an approximate area of 19 hectares and sits approximately one kilometre to the east of the A419.

A Swindon Borough Council planning spokesman said: “The proposed development would significantly contribute towards the health and well-being of the future occupants through the provision of open space, children’s play areas and allotments; as well as a contribution towards off-site sports facilities.

“Further to this, the creation of a healthy, safe and inclusive community will be promoted through a primary school site and convenience store, in addition to financial contributions towards the wider community services within the New Eastern Villages such as the health facility and secondary school.”

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 10 at the council offices.
