SWINDON has been named one of the top 10 best places to make a living in the UK.

Our town beat Oxford, Bristol, London and Cambridge in the rankings but placed just below Reading and Gloucester.

Swindon ranked 8th out of the 59 towns and cities which were analysed by independent credit broker TotallyMoney for the report.

The company's findings were based around median take-home salary, average monthly mortgage repayment, cost of living, employment rates and business closures in each location.

Joe Gardiner from TotallyMoney said: “While many are drawn to bigger cities such as London and Birmingham in the hope of earning a decent living, our research shows they may not be the best overall option due to higher-than-average living costs.

“We hope our research will prompt people to consider a wider range of areas when thinking about changing careers or moving home.”
