ROYAL Wootton Bassett will celebrate the royal wedding in style by hosting an annual carnival.

The carnival will have a wedding theme that will be held on the same day as the Royal wedding itself on May 19 from Marlowe Way at 4.30pm.

The town mayor will lead the procession of kings and queens through Wootton Bassett along with the town crier.

Carnival committee chairman, Barbara Sealey, said: “It’s a great event and it looks like we will have great weather this year.

“I’m excited about the parade and I get excited about the crowd getting excited.”

The carnival royalty were selected at the ballroom of the Angel Hotel by Mayor Mike Farrow, Miss Beauty UK Jade Dando and Sheri Harvey, Young European International Miss Wiltshire.

Mayor of Wootton Bassett, Mike Farrow said: “I look forward to it because it’s a great occasion we attend. I enjoy the whole day.”

Carnival queen is Lucy Watson, 14, of Royal Wootton Bassett Academy and king is Rowan White, 10, of St Bartholomew's Primary Academy.

The baby butterfly princess is Marissa Taparek who, at 4-weeks-old is the youngest-ever carnival celebrity.

The carnival page boy is Sam Edwards, four, who attends the Infant School.

Ben Edwards, nine, the carnival prince, is a pupil at Noremarsh Junior School and Emily Lawrence, eight, of St Bartholomew's, is carnival princess.
