A New College lecturer who spends his day teaching English is earning an international following as a librettist.

Euan Tait, who has worked at the campus off Queens Drive for the past four years, has had his choral work performed in the far East and America and this autumn his lyrics will be sung during the international choral conductor course at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

He writes words for opera and choral pieces and has worked with several well-known choral composers.

Earlier this year he and composer Chris Hutchings premiered their We Are One Voice work at Beaconsfield Choir festival. It went on to win an international children's choir competition in Hong Kong.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work with outstanding international choral composers such as Kim Andre Arnesen, Timothy Tharaldson and Paul Spicer,” he said. “This has resulted in two choral symphonies, a multi-movement Christmas work and a number of shorter pieces, some of which are best sellers.

“Flight Song, for example, has so many different performance videos on YouTube and has sold over one thousands of copies.”

Last year his work was performed in New Hampshire, New York, Boston and Minnesota among other places.

Later this year a new professional group, Philomel, will be singing some of his work for a St Cecilia’s Day Concert at the Swiss Church in Covent Garden.

The keen doublebass player is also known as a poet and has had his poems published in the US and Ireland.
